EuroPulse is a real-time multilingual threat detection system designed for open-source intelligence (OSINT) and public-safety monitoring. It detects early reports of violent or dangerous incidents, such as shootings, explosions, riots, or transport attacks, from French and German-language social media posts. The system focuses on posts from independent citizen journalists and eyewitnesses, identifying credible alerts before mainstream media coverage. Its goal is to help analysts and emergency-response teams recognise fast-developing threats across Europe in real time.
The platform is implemented in Python with modular data collectors for each API. Posts are processed through multilingual NLP pipelines using Hugging Face Transformers models for classification and named-entity recognition. Clustering and noise filtering are achieved with HDBSCAN, and results are visualised on an interactive Leaflet.js or GeoJSON map. Designed for asynchronous real-time operation, the architecture supports event-driven scaling.
EuroPulse demonstrates how AI and multilingual natural-language processing can enhance early-warning intelligence for public safety. Inspired by incidents such as the Bataclan attack and Christmas market assaults, it seeks to identify the first social-media signals of emerging threats, often minutes before official reports or news coverage. By focusing on citizen journalism and eyewitness data, EuroPulse helps bridge the information gap during rapidly unfolding emergencies.
The project grew from my own experience of refreshing social media feeds during major crises such as the Arab Spring and the Grenfell Tower fire. These moments showed how individuals online can become the first responders in the digital space. This inspired a system capable of amplifying those early, scattered signals into structured intelligence that supports analysts, journalists, and emergency responders in making faster, evidence-based decisions.
